Four Ways To Add Summer Decor to Your Home

The arrival of summer brings with it longer days, warmer temperatures, and time spent at sandy beaches. Celebrate the season in your home and the things you enjoy doing by adding home decor pieces to your interior. You want to think about finding pieces that represent how you feel about the season or celebrate the holidays with your favorite displays. All it takes is a little willingness on your part to get creative and find ways to incorporate summer into your home. Here are some summer home decor ideas to help you get started.

Bring in the Bold Colors

Don’t worry, this one is very easy to do and doesn’t require you bringing in new furnishings. All you need is a few throw pillows, maybe a vibrantly colored fake plant or two, and a pouf or ottoman to put next to the sofa or chair. Pieces with exotic patterns are full of clashing colors that won’t tire the eye and give a bit of heat to the room. Fake potted plants add bright spots of color and greenery in the room and help draw everything together.

Add in Some Terra Cotta Pieces

Terra cotta is excellent for summer decorating ideas. The natural brown/orange color of terra cotta is warm and soothing, but it also evokes the feeling of warmer locales such as Italy where the material is used everywhere. Find some jars for the kitchen counter or a figural or two for the side table. The natural color of terra cotta works in almost every color scheme, but there’s nothing wrong with color-glazed pieces. Terra cotta retains its earthiness and warmth even when glazed with color.

Change out Curtains and Curtain Rods

This may sound like a chore and one of the less-fun summer house decor ideas, but it’s worth doing and can coincide with regular cleaning for your curtains. Changing the curtains and curtain rods to a lighter color helps brighten up the room and make it feel fresh. The ends of the curtain rods stick out a little way from each end which means they have a color impact on the room. Going from a silver rod to a gold rod is a small yet significant color change to bring summer into the home.

String Up Some Lights

One of the most evocative images of summer is an outdoor space hung up with softly glowing lights on a wire. It creates a feeling of slowing down, relaxing, enjoying life, and hanging out with friends. Bring that feeling indoors by hanging lights in a room that’s used for casual moments. This effect is best achieved in a room that has little in the way of electronics as they can detract from the feeling. Consider creating an atmosphere where you do nothing but relax, read books, and listen to music while crickets serenade you in the background.
